more conference

Salut!
Today, all day long, I was in charge of a room at the conference, with some other students. We had to stay in the room to help the presenters download and set up their presentations. I ended up “working” (more like sitting there and occasionally helping out the presenters) with some of the graduating students. It was interesting hearing what they thought about the program considering they were the first ever students to complete the masters program. They did mention that the program did lack some organization here and there but on a whole i think they were very happy with their degrees and with the work experience they got during the program. Also since they were the first year obviously not all the kinks had been worked out yet.
While listening to one of the presentations I realized that the person sitting next to me was wearing an iron ring (the symbol of a Canadian engineer). It turns out that the man was a consultant for a firm in Ontario and he was there presenting a paper on some work they had been doing on water quality in the ontario region. He had made a little vacation out of the business trip and had done some travelling around France with his girlfriend before the start of the conference.
After the conference that day I went out for some drinks with the other students and with the director of the program in Newcastle, UK.
Ciao,
Steph
